Civil Marriage Applications in UAE
The key legal requirements for a civil marriage in the UAE are that both parties are over 18 years of age, and that they consent to the marriage. Each party also needs to sign a form to acknowledge that they are not currently married to anyone else.
Applicants are not required to have their fathers or guardians approval, nor do they need a premarital screening certificate.
Prenups are not just for the wealthy
Pre-nuptial agreements can support the less wealthy partner in terms of making sure they and the children are taken care of in the event of a divorce. It can cover housing, financial maintenance, school fees and visas. It may include a fund that allows the spouse to remain in the UAE if they are not working.
Pre-nuptial agreements in the UAE generally take two to four weeks to create a draft with a lawyer, and about three months to finalise the agreements.
