Permission to Obtain a Birth Certificate

Unmarried couples can now apply for a birth certificate for their baby. This is now easy to do, and simply requires parents to sign a declaration of parentage and obtain a court order. Abu Dhabi residents may apply as well as parents of children born in Abu Dhabi.

A mother can also obtain a birth certificate for a child where the father is unknown, on submission of a specific form. This new law recognises the right of a child to have a birth certificate regardless of the marital status of parents and whether the father is known or not.

Interim Order Applications

Interim orders are urgent requests that are usually issued within one to three working days on a temporary basis until a dispute between parents is considered. They can relate to temporary alimony, temporary seizure, travel bans, surrendering of a passport by a party that seized it, and other urgent issues.

Interim orders can be registered through the Abu Dhabi Judicial Departments website or filed through a licensed law firm in Abu Dhabi (for example Aramas international Lawyers).
